Besides Halloween and pumpkin spice everything, fall is a season that’s best known for it’s vibrant, picturesque foliage. Between the seasonal harvest, the changing colours and the crisp air, there’s something about the season that makes you want to get outside to explore and enjoy nature. But what if nature isn’t as easily accessible to you as you’d like? If your fall foliage views are obstructed by concrete and condos, don’t give up hope on being able to enjoy this fleeting season. City dwellers can still make the most out of fall—and we’re here to show you how.
Take a casual walk through the city streets. It may not be the nature hike you were hoping for, but the air is still crisp and local shops should have lots of seasonal items on display! Try scoping out neighborhoods that aren’t covered in condos, like The Danforth, Leslieville, Little Italy and Parkdale.
Grab a friend and a pumpkin spiced something from a little local joint. Their decor is usually super sweet, and could give you some inspiration to spruce up your own space for the season! We love Broadview Espresso, Merchants of Green Coffee, Crafted and Cafe Novo in Toronto.
Big or small, every city has a park. Bring a book, bring a coffee, gaze at the trees… take advantage of your local patch of nature before winter comes along. These photos are taken in Toronto’s Trinity Bellwoods, but you can also check out Withrow Park, Christie Pitts, High Park or even Riverdale Farm!
Put on your favourite toque and strap on your best boots, don’t let your urban locale stop you from getting out in nature. Fall has a way of making the mundane seem beautiful, so put on your favourite fall playlist and walk around your neighborhood—you may see it in a whole new light. Click through to see snaps from our West Queen West nature walk.
Wind down from your perfect fall day by taking in the perfect sunset. If you can get to water, even better. We took some shots on Toronto’s Harbourfront, but no matter where you are in the city—just look up and enjoy the gorgeous fall sunset.
