The Montreal Vegan Festival (si vous parlez français: Festival végane de Montréal) is taking Quebec plant-eaters by storm. Acting as the largest vegan festival in the province, the fest brings together foodies, environmentalists and the veg curious to learn more about the dietary choice and lifestyle of veganism.
In addition to all the vegan foods and products retailed by vendors at the fest, there will be conferences, workshops and culinary demonstrations—all accessible for the low, low entrance fee of free.
With veganism on the rise, this festival is showing no signs of slowing down. Last year, the festival had a turnout of over 10,000 visitors, doubling attendance from its inaugural year in 2013.
Check out all the festival is offering this year below and head to the Montreal Vegan Festival site here for a full schedule of events.
Tons of vegan products and restaurants will have booths at the festival. Get ready to discover your new favourite vegan snack, cosmetic or dinner spot. And don’t miss the tables of the city’s best vegan restaurants. Get the best brunch at Aux Vivres, try Crudessence‘s eclectic raw menu and indulge in gluten-free friendly bar fare at Lola Rosa.
Culinary demonstrations will teach festival goers easy vegan recipes and DIYs. One demo, hosted by author Patricia Martin, will tackle the challenge of how to veganise classic recipes. Offering discussions in both English and French, the festival will host over 40 guest speakers. Ranging from researchers to bloggers to animal rights activists, every aspect of the vegan lifestyle will be addressed in these talks.
One notable event taking place at the festival is the screening of The Ghosts In Our Machine, a full-length documentary from 2013, focusing on rescued animals living in the modern world. The doc centres on animal rights photographer Jo-Anne McArthur, who will also be at the screening, hosting a Q&A. Admission is free, but you’ll need to reserve your seat here to attend.
The festival will also have a new and improved library. Boasting over 150 titles, some books can even be signed by attending authors, including Élise Desaulniers (author of Cash Cow), Jo-Anne McArthur (We Animals) and more.
On Saturday evening, the festival transforms from an expo of vegan goodies and demos and into a full-fledged party, complete with DJs and cocktails. DJs EZLV, Papa Djee, Subtone Brothers and DJ Present will be spinning.
